About Gait Analysis
Gait Analysis in Dartmouth
Are you a new or long-time runner? Do you want to prevent recurring injuries, or get faster and more efficient in your stride? A running gait analysis might be just what you need!
Research Shows That Up to 80% of Recreational Runners are Injured Every Year
Gait analysis can be particularly beneficial if you are a new runner, are returning to running after injury, suffer from the same injury repeatedly, or from a series of injuries.
At Choice Health Centre, physiotherapist and expert runner Laura Gfeller is just as passionate about helping you achieve your goals as she is about achieving her own. A dedicated marathoner and triathlete, Laura has specialized training and education in the prevention and treatment of running-related injuries. Through gait analysis, Laura can help you identify potential weaknesses in your stride and provide professional guidance on how to improve your running for injury or performance.
What can I expect?
A running gait analysis typically takes about an hour. Bring your running shoes (multiple pairs if you use them) and be prepared to run on a treadmill for about five minutes. The therapist will ask about your running history, goals, and current or past injuries. She then assesses your strength and range of motion, and runs some specific tests based on your history of injury. Afterwards, she will examine your running in slow motion to determine how your form may be positively or negatively affecting it. The physiotherapist reviews the results with you and provides recommendations for improving your running form, including advice on training, strengthening, cadence, and footwear.
