Emotional Wellness is Key to Your Overall Health

Hi everyone, I’m excited to have recently joined Choice Health Centre in Halifax and to work as part of their multi-disciplinary team.

I’m a native of New Brunswick who loves being on or near the water. I have easily begun calling Halifax home as I’ve discovered so many great beaches, lakes and amazing places to boat!

I also love attending Yoga classes, and I enjoy my ongoing learning through mindful practices in my life; I am a lover of reading and good coffee, and when I combine a great book with a great cup of coffee than I am truly having a joyful moment in my life. I’ve learned that finding these moments of joy throughout my day allow me to nurture my body, mind, and spirit, and this has allowed me to find greater joy in my daily life.

Speaking of nurturing body, mind and spirit, I’d like to help you understand what services I offer!

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

I am a licensed counselor/therapist who is registered as a Private Practitioner with the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers, and I’m registered as a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling with the Canadian Association of Professional Counsellors.

I have been working for over 20 years with individuals and families in government settings. Most of this experience has been in healthcare, primarily mental health and addiction services, as well as with Family and Community Services and the Department of Education. I am also experienced in Leadership, Coaching, and Mentoring with individuals and teams.​

It is not necessary to have a referral to see me. My services are covered by most health insurance plans, such as Medavie Blue Cross. However, I always recommended you call your provider to be sure.

WHAT IS HOLISTIC COUNSELLING

Counselling, also known as psychotherapy or therapy, can address concerns about wellness, relationships, personal growth, career development, emotions, mental health, life transitions and life adjustments. I offer Holistic Counselling – holistic meaning taking into consideration the body, mind, spirit connection. Holistic Counselling explores the many factors within body, mind, spirit that influence life and well being. During counselling sessions, which are generally 50 minutes, I will encourage you to explore ways your emotions, thoughts, behaviours, environment and body contribute to your overall wellbeing. I’ll work with you as you make changes to help you live a more meaningful and healthy life.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT APPROACHES I USE?

There are many approaches to counselling and therapy which exist and no single approach that works for everyone. I work from a trauma informed care lens and am trained in Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Client Centered Therapy and Mindfulness. I am also a Level Three Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Practitioner (also known as 'tapping'). I believe that our symptoms and feelings are guideposts inviting us to a deeper inquiry and reminding us to connect to who we are. As we find self-compassion, courage, and forgiveness, we can begin to look more closely at who we are and to release past patterns, blocks, and resentments. As we do this, we can move more fully into the life we desire.
