What is the difference between yoga and Pilates? How do I know which will suit my body/ condition best? These are questions I am asked almost daily now that our small group yoga and Pilates classes are underway at Choice.
Yoga and PilatesThe quick response is, while there is some overlap between the two disciplines, yoga focuses more on stretching and lengthening shortened musculature, while Pilates focuses more on core strength and stability.
In most cases, I would ultimately suggest both classes to any person looking to improve their fitness level. Our instructors can tailor their class to your level to make it challenging for each individual, regardless of your current fitness level. However, the reality is, most people cannot fit both into their lives and need to choose one. If you are unsure whether gaining muscular length or strength is more important to improve your condition or fitness level, ask your Choice chiropractor, physio or massage therapist.
